Bespoke Shopify Design + Build for a Medical Aesthetics Clinic
Overview
Cavendish Clinic commissioned a completely bespoke Shopify theme to support its national network of private medical and aesthetics clinics.
The project involved designing and developing a premium e-commerce experience capable of supporting clinical treatments, skincare products, and marketing campaigns, while providing the flexibility required for a non-technical marketing team new to Shopify.
Rather than relying on an off-the-shelf Shopify theme, the entire storefront was architected and developed from the ground up, with an emphasis on performance, long-term maintainability, and the customer booking experience.

The Challenge
One of the biggest technical challenges was integrating Shopify with the clinic's existing booking platform, Zenoti.
While the new e-commerce experience was built on Shopify, Zenoti remained the operational system used by front-of-house staff to manage appointments and clinic schedules. Customers therefore needed a seamless journey from browsing treatments on the Shopify storefront to booking the correct service within Zenoti, without exposing the complexity of two separate systems.
To solve this, I designed a lightweight integration using Shopify Metaobjects and Metafields. Each treatment and package was associated with its corresponding Zenoti booking URL, allowing the correct service to be dynamically linked from the relevant Shopify product and variant pages. This created a seamless customer experience.
The solution provided a flexible, maintainable architecture that allowed the business to continue operating on its existing clinic systems whilst delivering a modern Shopify storefront. It also provided a practical transition path until the organisation was ready to migrate away from Zenoti and move towards a fully Shopify-native booking experience.

My Role
I led the project from concept through to launch, combining UX design, technical architecture, Shopify development and project consultancy.
Working to an 8-week delivery programme, I designed and developed two separate bespoke Shopify storefronts for two distinct business entities:
- Cavendish Clinic – the primary ecommerce platform for treatments, skincare products, memberships and marketing.
- Cavendish Aesthetic Institute – a companion Shopify store providing professional training courses and educational content.
I was commissioned to:
- Design the user experience and interface, including multiple concepts based on the client brief.
- Architect and develop two bespoke Shopify themes for separate business entities.
- Deliver end-to-end front-end development using Shopify Liquid, HTML, PostCSS, and JavaScript.
- Design the Shopify content architecture using Metaobjects and Metafields.
- Architect the Shopify-Zenoti integration to deliver a seamless treatment booking experience.
- Build a modular page builder, empowering the marketing team to manage content independently.
- Optimise performance and deliver a fully responsive customer experience.
- Provide project management, technical consultancy and stakeholder engagement throughout delivery.
- Produce technical documentation and provide training for the internal team.
Key features
Treatment Product Pages
Treatment product pages were designed and developed to act as the central point in the customer journey, combining rich educational content with a clear path to booking. Each page supported flexible layouts for treatment information, benefits, pricing, FAQs, before-and-after imagery, practitioner details and related treatments, all managed through editable Shopify content.
Rather than using Shopify's standard add-to-cart flow, each treatment package was intelligently linked to the appropriate service within Zenoti using a bespoke Metaobject and Metafield architecture. This enabled customers to select treatment packages and clinics within Shopify before being seamlessly directed to the corresponding Zenoti booking page, creating a unified experience whilst allowing the business to continue using its existing clinic management system during the transition period.

Product Pages
Alongside treatment pages, I designed and developed bespoke product detail pages for Cavendish Clinic's skincare and retail catalogue. Each page was tailored to reflect the premium brand while providing a clear and engaging purchasing experience. The templates combined rich editorial content with ecommerce functionality, supporting product information, ingredient highlights, usage guidance, related products, customer reviews and promotional messaging within a flexible, content-managed layout.

Locations Landing Page
A bespoke locations landing page was developed to showcase Cavendish Clinic's flagship clinics and provide a consistent experience across the group's growing network. The page was built using modular, editable content sections, allowing the marketing team to independently manage clinic information, imagery, opening hours, facilities, contact details and promotional content without developer involvement.

Results
The project delivered a fully bespoke Shopify platform combining premium branding with flexible content management and a high-performance ecommerce architecture.
The architected solution was intentionally designed to be managed by a marketing team with limited Shopify and e-commerce experience. Through intuitive content management, reusable page components and a structured content architecture, the business could confidently manage products, treatments and marketing campaigns without ongoing developer support. At the same time, the underlying architecture provided a scalable technical foundation for future growth, allowing the existing clinic systems to remain in place while creating a clear migration path towards a fully Shopify-native booking experience.
Although the business subsequently entered liquidation* and the website is no longer publicly available, the project demonstrates the successful delivery of two bespoke Shopify themes within an eight-week programme, combining UX design, technical architecture, ecommerce integration and content management into a scalable, enterprise-ready solution.
Project Note
*The version of the website featured in this case study is no longer publicly available. Shortly after delivery of the project, the client company entered liquidation. The company's published accounts recorded a balance sheet deficit exceeding £500 million, and its clinics subsequently ceased trading. The platform delivered as part of this engagement was therefore taken offline as part of those events.
